Shopper's Guide•Stress & Cortisol
6 things I didn't realize were signs of high cortisol
Summary: I'd been treating five different problems: bad sleep, an afternoon crash, cravings, a puffy face and a short fuse. It took me far too long to see they might all be the same one. Here's what I wish I'd noticed sooner.
Here's all 6 👇

1. I slept eight hours and still woke up exhausted
I'd be in bed by 10, sleep straight through, and still wake up feeling like I'd been hit by a truck. Cortisol is supposed to peak in the morning and taper off by night. When stress keeps it running at the wrong times, your sleep can look fine on paper and still not feel restful.
👉 wake up actually rested
2. Dead at 3pm, wide awake at 10pm
The afternoon crash, then a second wind right when I should have been winding down. I blamed coffee. It's a classic pattern when your stress response stays switched on: flat when you need to function, wired when you want to rest.

3. Craving salty, sugary everything on my worst days
It was never on the good days. After a rough one, I'd be standing at the pantry at 10pm. Stress hormones can push you toward exactly the high-sugar, high-salt foods you swore off. It wasn't a willpower problem.

4. A puffy face that wasn't there last year
I blamed salt, wine, bad sleep. Some mornings my face just looked swollen, especially around my cheeks and eyes. Cortisol plays a part in how your body holds onto water, which is why people online call it "cortisol face."

5. Snapping over things that never used to bother me
A spilled coffee, a slow reply, a sink full of dishes. Small things set me off, and then I'd feel guilty for the rest of the day. When your body has been in stress mode for weeks, your fuse gets shorter. It isn't a personality flaw.

6. Nothing I tried was aimed at the actual cause
I had a fix for every symptom: melatonin for sleep, more coffee for the crash, a new diet for the cravings. None of them touched the stress underneath. Supercalm is built around KSM-66® ashwagandha, the extract shown in a clinical study to lower serum cortisol by 27.9% after 60 days, vs 7.9% for placebo.* Two sticks a day give you the studied 600mg, plus 800mg of L-theanine and magnesium glycinate. Zero sugar, and it tastes like a mocktail.
