6 things I learned trying to fix my focus one supplement at a time
Summary: I wasn't low on effort. I had the list, I had the time, and I kept doing none of it. A friend walked me through what she took, one problem at a time, and it turned out I didn't need five bottles. Here are the six things I learned.

Here's all 6 👇
1. Being stuck wasn't a motivation problem
I had so much to do and somehow I was doing none of it. My brain wanted to start and just wouldn't. When I finally said it out loud, my friend didn't call me lazy — she asked if I'd tried L-tyrosine. It's an amino acid the body uses as a building block for dopamine, and it was the first thing she reached for on the days she couldn't get going. Superfocus has 1,000mg of it, in the N-acetyl form.

2. My brain had forty tabs open
Everything was loud and nothing was finished. Her fix for the mental clutter was Alpha-GPC, a choline compound that has been studied for attention and mental clarity rather than for stimulation, which is why the clarity doesn't arrive with a racing feeling. Superfocus uses GeniusPure Alpha-GPC at 350mg, which delivers 315mg of alpha-GPC — the same amount used in the study.
Kerksick et al., 2024: a single 315mg dose of Alpha-GPC roughly doubled the improvement in Stroop test scores compared with placebo. Research relates to the Alpha-GPC ingredient, not to Nello or to this product.

3. Two hours of real focus and I was wiped
On the days I did manage to lock in, it cost me. Two hours later my brain was done, and the rest of the day was admin at best. She'd been there, and what helped her mental exhaustion was Rhodiola rosea, a root that has been used for stamina and fatigue for a very long time. Superfocus has 200mg, standardized to 3% rosavins and 1% salidrosides.

4. Walking into rooms and forgetting why
The small stuff started slipping, which worried me more than the big stuff. Her answer was lion's mane, a mushroom extract studied for cognitive support over weeks rather than hours. Superfocus has 500mg per serving from the fruiting body, as a 4:1 extract. It works on a longer clock than the rest of this list, so I stopped expecting to feel it in an afternoon.

5. Caffeine was making it worse, not better
I was drinking more coffee to function and getting more overstimulated for it. Her trick was L-theanine, an amino acid from tea that takes the edge off caffeine without taking the alertness with it. It's the most studied pairing in this category. The caffeinated Superfocus has 75mg of caffeine, about half a cup, paired with 150mg of L-theanine rather than piled on top of it.
Nobre et al., 2008: 50mg L-theanine increased alpha brainwave activity, a marker associated with calm, alert mental states. Research relates to the L-theanine ingredient, not to Nello or to this product.

6. I do not have the capacity for fifteen supplements
That was my actual objection, and it turned out to be the whole point. Nello put all of it in one drink: the tyrosine, the Alpha-GPC, the rhodiola, the lion's mane, the theanine. There's a caffeinated version if you want the lift and a caffeine-free one if you don't. Zero sugar — it's sweetened with monk fruit and stevia. Mine's fruit punch, and it tastes like fruit punch, not like a supplement. It sells out often enough that I order two when it's in stock.
