6 things men get wrong about skin health after 30
Summary: Nobody tells you the mechanics of this, so you end up assembling a theory from adverts. I went and read properly, and six of the things I'd been confidently repeating turned out to be wrong.

Here's all 6 👇

1. It isn't vanity, it's barrier function
The thing going wrong after 30 is usually mechanical: the barrier holds less water and repairs more slowly. Framing that as vanity is why most men leave it for another decade.

2. Collagen production drops and you won't feel it happen
There's no day where it announces itself. You just notice, across a few years of photographs, that something has changed — and by then it's been in progress the whole time.

3. Serums sit on the surface — that's the design
A topical is doing surface work, which is real but limited. Drinking it works differently: it supports hydration at the level where your skin actually makes it, rather than pulling in whatever moisture is nearby.

4. Hydration isn't the same as drinking more water
I'd been told to drink more water for years and it changed nothing, because the issue was retention rather than intake. Hyaluronic acid is the part of this that addresses the holding, not the pouring.

5. Sun is most of the story and always has been
Nothing you drink or apply outruns it. This isn't a replacement for that, and any product that implies otherwise is one to be sceptical of. It's the floor everything else builds on.

6. Consistency beats the number of products
A five-step routine you do twice a week loses to one thing you do every morning. That's unglamorous and it's the single most reliable thing I've learned about any of this.
